According to various experts, 33-40% of homeless men are veterans. On Friday, April 3, the Rotary Club of West U, the Sheltering Arms Senior Services, and the Neighborhood Centers, Inc. came together to prepare Care packages for these homeless veterans. Following up on a suggestion from Club member and Sheltering Arms Director of Adult Day Center Katie Scott, Community Services Chair Craig Friou and #1 assistant Chad Spencer did an excellent job bringing together the three groups. Rotarians collected or purchased the necessary items for the packages. The Sheltering Arms Seniors prepared the Care packages for homeless vets. The Neighborhood Centers, Inc. then took the responsibility of distributing the packages to area homeless veterans. While most homeless veterans are men, not all are. Consequently, the Seniors prepared a quantity of care packages for former servicewomen. It was a service project that typified how our area groups come together to help displaced Houstonians.

Expect to see periodic projects like this in the future.
