West U Rotary Happenings for the week of June 19, 2016 ….

As a reminder, Rotarians from District 5890 will assist our friends in Rosenberg on Saturday, June 25th from 8:30 AM – 2 PM with neighborhood clean-up. The Disaster Aid trailer that our club helped fund will also be onsite with much of the necessary tools to assist with the clean-up efforts. Volunteers are needed to assist with clean up and removal of debris. Two separate locations have been established as the check in points: 503 3^rd St (Friends of North Rosenberg) and BF Terry High School – 5500 Avenue N. Be sure to tell the groups you are with Rotary. Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering. It is important that you dress in long pants and some closed toe shoes – preferably boots. They also suggest gloves and plenty of water. There will be water and trash bags available at the check in locations but you can never have enough so feel free to bring trash bags and water.

Last week our speaker was David Robinson – City of Houston Councilman. David discussed several items the City of Houston is currently working on to make Houston a safer place. David fielded several tough questions about what is or is not currently being done to address several growing inner city challenges. There certainly were more questions than time. Perhaps we can invite him back again soon to continue the discussion.

This week’s meeting will be very informative. Incoming Club President Carol Lester will lead the Club Assembly presentation. Several club members will share their vision for the 2016 – 2017 Rotary year. What do Carol and the others have planned for our club for the upcoming year? Well, I guess you will just have to attend the meeting Thursday morning to learn what exciting things they have planned for next year.

Last Friday, several members from our club attended District Governor Elect Eric Liu’s installation dinner. We have several club members who are volunteering at the District level. This should be a great year for our club and for our District.

Mark your calendars for next Tuesday, June 28^th for the 2016 – 2017 West U Rotary Club officer installation dinner and awards presentation at Maggianos. The event begins at 6 PM with a cash bar. Dinner will begin at 6:30 so come on out and let’s help celebrate the new officers for the 2016 – 2017 Rotary year. It is not too late to register. Please RSVP online or contact George Adams.

June 28^th – West U Rotary 2016 – 2017 Officer Installation – Maggianos.
June 30^th – Annual club awards presentation
June 30^th – Happy Hour at Marquis II for another fantastic year

And don’t forget – our annual 4^th of July Celebration will be happening on … well … the 4^th of July. Come help decorate our float (on the 3^rd), play a kazoo in the marching band or help with the picnic. Regardless, please come out and support our annual event that supports the Challenger League.
