West U Rotary Happenings for the week of June 26, 2016 ….
 
Here we are officially at the end of another Rotary year. What an amazing year for me, for our club and for Rotary. At the global level we continue to diligently work towards our long goal of eradicating polio. With almost ½ of the year in the record books, there have only been 17 cases of polio. It is amazing the progress we have made these last few years but as we have heard, we still have work to do. Let’s hope that over the next year and a half we can eradicate this paralyzing disease.
 
For our club – it has been a year of “firsts” and “agains.” There are several things we accomplished this year for the first time.
  • Monthly socials – these have been well attended by our club. We had a different social each month which gave us the opportunity to regularly engage with our members outside of our weekly meetings
  • West U Senior Breakfast - breakfast prepared for the West U Seniors
  • Disaster Aid Trailer as our District Grant in partnership with the CyFair Club – the trailer has already been deployed 3 times this year
  • 15 new club members. This is the most new members in one year since the very early years of the club.
  • Galveston home tour dinner
  • Rotary Global Grant Scholarship recipient
We re-introduced  a couple of events this year:
  • Red Badge Dinner – a special evening to recognize our newest members
  • Paul Harris Society Dinner – another special evening, this time recognizing several of our club and district annual donors.
Last week Carol presented the annual Club Assembly. We received a preview of the goals for the incoming year. Several club members shared their plans for the 2016 – 2017 Rotary year.  Let’s get crazy about Rotary and West U Rotary!!
This Tuesday, June 28th is the 2016 – 2017 West U Rotary Club officer installation dinner and awards presentation at Maggianos. The event begins at 6 PM with a cash bar. Dinner will begin at 6:30 so come on out and let’s help celebrate the new officers for the 2016 – 2017 Rotary year.
 
For June, we still have a few important events coming up:
  • June 28th – West U Rotary 2016 – 2017 Officer Installation – Maggianos.
  • June 30th – Annual club awards presentation
  • June 30th – Happy Hour at Marquis II for another fantastic year
And don’t forget – our annual 4th of July Celebration will be happening on … well … the 4th of July. Come help decorate our float (on the 3rd), play a kazoo in the marching band or help with the picnic. Regardless, please come out and support our annual event that supports the Challenger League.
My thanks go out to everyone in our club for making this a fantastic year. It has been a pleasure to serve as your president. I have such great memories of this awesome year. We have the most amazing club with the best members who have a passion for serving and being a Gift to the World and a Gift to our Community. Thank you for a most special year. Carol, the baton is officially being passed to you. Good luck and best memories. Faldyn ... out!
