Travels to California and South Korea

Floatin' down the Bayou!

Our guest speaker this week is Willie Jones Jr - don't miss this special presentation

West U Rotary Happenings for the week of May 22, 2016 ….

I took a little vacation this week. Cynthia and I visited the west coast for a little r – n – r. We visited Yosemite Park and saw some amazing waterfalls – the park rangers said probably the best in at least 8 years. Afterwards we made our way to Carmel and Monterey - beautiful weather and beautiful scenery. I love waking up to 55° mornings in May! We even got to witness CHPD (and 4 heavy duty wreckers) retrieve an 18 wheeler from over the cliff on Highway 1. Amazing, everyone survived but I don’t think the strawberries made it to their Los Angeles destination.

George did a great job of navigating the ship while I was gone. Thank you Mr. Adams! I appreciate you stepping in to lead the meetings. Last week’s speaker was Larry Gregory – the President of the Lone Star Flight Museum. Larry discussed the new 130,000 square feet addition to the flight museum that is scheduled to open in February 2017. For 30 years, The Lone Star Museum honored the extraordinary aviation history of Texas and has been designated as the official Texas Aviation hall of fame.

This week, we are in for a special treat. Many of you have had the privilege to meet Mr. Willie Jones Jr. who has been a regular attendee of our meetings for the past couple of years. As Don can attest, Willie is quite a good golfer but Willie is also quite the perfectionist when it comes to detailing cars. Willie owns his own business and he will share with you a very special journey. David and Kindra LeFevre will also provide us with an update to Rightrak Industries. These are truly special stories that you don’t want to miss.

This past Saturday several of the club members got together for a little Bayou Regatta. May’s monthly social took things outdoors for some kayaking. Buffalo Bayou was running higher and faster than what was deemed safe so the crew took the excursion to Greens Bayou. We had 13 Rotarians and guests participate in the kayaking trip followed by lunch. Have you attended one of our monthly socials yet? If not, why not? We have had so many fun events this year. You have one more change in June to join us for an end of the year fellowship. So, come on out and let’s have some fun.

And Carol is off … to the International Conference in Seoul, Korea. More than 42,000 Rotarians from 100 countries will converge in South Korea to discuss the future of Rotary and have a little fun in between. Have a great time Carol! We look forward to hearing all about the trip.

For June, we still have several events coming up:
  • June 6th – our annual golf tournament at Riverbend Country Club. This is still plenty of space for hole sponsorships and foursomes. So, come on out and help support the West U Rotary Club Foundation and the Emergency Aid Coalition.
  • June 11th – Books for the World book Sorting
  • June 17th – District Governor Elect Eric Liu’s Installation Banquet – Hilton of the Americas. We have several members and spouses attending. Please get with me if you would like to sit with the club.
  • June 28thWest U Rotary 2016 – 2017 Officer InstallationMaggianos. Come on out! Bring your spouse, significant other or family for this special evening.
