Membership Development and Retention Goals for our Club.

West U Rotary Happenings for the week ending November 7, 2015 ….

Howdy all! Welcome to November in Houston. Many of us are probably growing tired of all the candy and hoping someone will just make it go away. The area is transitioning from large spiders and witches in our front yard to lights, decorations and reindeer.  Only 46 shopping days.

Last week we briefly outlined the categories of the Presidential Citation. This week will begin to outline the different categories and what our club can do to help reach these goals. We need everyone’s help to reach these goals. This week we will highlight the areas under the Membership Development and Retention:
  • Membership Development and Retention (we must achieve 3 out of 4)
    • Achieve a net gain in membership of at least 2 members
    • Achieve a net gain in female membership of at least 2 members
    • Improve member retention by at least 1% from last year
    • Increase new member sponsors by at least 1 % from last year
We are off to a good start! We have 3 new members this year but hopefully we can continue to add several more new members this year. Please continue to ask your friends and neighbors to join us as guests.

Next week we will highlight Foundation Giving

Last week our guest speaker Megan Stecklly with Comp-U-Dopt discussed their efforts to provide refurbished computers and technology education to underserved children locally and internationally. In the last year they have provided over 1,500 computers to children! They take all kinds of used computers. Please consider donating your old computers to Comp-U-Dopt so they can refurbish and donate.

This week we welcome Dr. Joe Karlgaard who is the athletic director at Rice University. Dr. Karlgaard will discuss what it takes to perform as a student and an athlete at Rice University and also an update on the current athletic program at Rice. Please join us this week in welcoming Joe.

Here is a list of our upcoming activities:

  • November 12th - RYE recruiting meeting John Neighbors Room at the West U Community Center
  • November 13th - the 4th annual Carnegie Vanguard HS (Interact) International Festival
  • November 21st – Polio Plus events at George Bush Park and dinner at the Southside Rec Center
  • November 22nd – Our monthly Social – Thanksgiving Dinner at Gene and Kathryn McFaddin’s home
  • November 26th – Annual Turkey Trot 5K fun run. Katie Scott is looking for volunteers to assist with the fun run. Enjoy the week and we look forward to seeing our members and guests on Thursday.
