West U Rotary Happenings for the week ending October 31, 2015 ….

Howdy all! Welcome to November in Houston when the weather is supposed to be cooling and the leaves are supposed to be changing colors. Instead we are all growing fins and the trees seem to be growing leaves rather than dropping leaves.

This week we had the honor of hosting our District Governor – Nick Giannone and his wonderful wife Fabiola. Nick discussed what we can do as a club to achieve the Presidential Citation. We have accomplished several of the goals already but there are several more things we need to do to accomplish these goals. This week we will highlight the areas to focus and in future notes, we outline some of the
specifics
  • Membership Development and Retention
  • Foundation Giving
  • Online Tool Adoption
  • Humanitarian Service
  • New Generations
  • Public Image

Nick also discussed several other important topics including his continued participation with the Gulf Coast Blood Center and the District competition for the most donors. We have a blood drive coming up in December so let’s help Nick be the largest donor District. Nick also discussed our District Conference in Galveston, scheduled for April 28th – 30th 2016 at the San Luis Hotel. Please plan to join us for a fun weekend. Please see Stacy Brevard for details regarding the event. Nick also presented one of our newest members - Potu Rao with a Paul Harris Society recognition for Potu's commitment of at least $1,000 annual donation to Rotary's Annual Fund. Congratulations to Potu!

This week our guest speaker is Megan Stecklly – providing computers to underserved children locally and internationally. Founded in 2007 by John Osha, Comp-U-Dopt, Inc. provides refurbished computers and technology education to enthusiastic, motivated children in underserved communities of the Greater Houston area. Their corporate and individual supporters and volunteers foster the educational aspirations of deserving children and encourage better environmental stewardship and community service.

Please join us this week in welcoming Megan. Enjoy the fall weather and we look forward to seeing our members and guests on Thursday.

Peace!
