We're in our 5th Thursday and second week of West U Rotary meeting hiatus. Don't come to Skeeters this Thursday but do sign up for
and come to the Rise for Hunger volunteer event on Saturday, October 31st. If you have any questions, reach out to our International Committee Chair, Jack Wallace.
We now know that West U Rotarian Gordon Lane's graveside service will be held at the Chattanooga, TN National Cemetery on Nov. 13, 2026 at 1:30 Eastern Time. Be on the lookout for an obituary in the Houston Chronicle.
If you have a hankering for a little Rotary and non-Rotary chit chat, come on down to Le Peep on Westheimer at West Land Drive for breakfast this Thursday morning at 7 am. Thank you, Terry Ziegler, Past President of West U Rotary and current Rotary Region 36 END POLIO NOW coordinator, for organizing this. I promise you will learn something about Rotary and/or about your fellow Rotarians!
Make sure you have the evening of December 8th, 2026, blocked off on your calendar. Our annual Holiday Celebration invitations have just been sent by Irene Sadkowski, Social Committee Chair. Sign up as soon as you can!
Reminder: most folks have paid their dues, and you should have received an invoice from Belinda Bracht, Treasurer, a month or so ago, but if you haven't paid, please do so as soon as possible.
Lastly, wow - West U Rotary had a very nice turnout (my guess, more than any other club!) for the World Polio Day walk this past Saturday from Dillards to the Galleria Water Wall. To round out the squad we had George, Kelsey Ziegler’s Greyhound, also participate. To the best of my knowledge, all walkers and Greyhound made it safely for this arduous 1/2 mile stroll and no EMS was required!!
This year, several of our club members celebrated World Polio Day on Saturday, October 24 by Walking The Walk, from Dillards to the Water Wall with lots of other District 5890 Rotarians, plus George the Greyhound. Thank you to our intrepid crew who showed up to support this great cause on a beautiful day.
Even if you can't make it to the holiday party this year, you can still join one of our WURC Foundation grantees, Operation Love, as they gather, wrap and distribute holiday gifts for underserved kiddos at Blackshear Elementary in Houston's 3rd Ward.
If you're short on time, bring those new in packaging toys, games, science and book sets to the WURC holiday party as announced above. If your schedule has the room, you can join the fun that comes with sharing time, mission and good cheer for a great cause while sorting and wrapping all of the presents. Always a great way to spend an evening, with two date and location options below.
